Mid-Week Review
By Sarah Wood
We caught up with goalie, Collin Soderholm, and introduced the NA3HL’s 2nd Star of The Week! This weekend, we face the Yellowstone Quake in a weekend series at Haynes Pavilion. The Icedogs currently sit 4th in the division, 3-1-2 and the Quake currently sit 7th, 1-4-1. We dive into how the coaches have been preparing the players for this weekend and what needs to be done in order to win.
In our conversation with Soderholm, he explained how the coaches have been preparing for the weekend, and to make sure the Dogs play as they did during last Saturdays game. “Mike and Jeff have been emphasizing on passing and offensive plays.” said Soderholm. The team struggled against the Sabres last Friday night, losing 3-2 in overtime. Head Coach/GM, Mike Perkins explained to the team that they have to work harder to get the puck in the net, missing passes this weekend cannot happen. Sunday night was a different story, in the 2nd and 3rd periods the Dogs scored 6 goals, ending the game 6-3. Soderholm mentioned how the team needs to focus on the plays, and not worry about refs or outside factors they can’t control. Collin simply put it, “We just need to outwork the Quake, every player has to be 100% for both games.”
NA3HL 2nd Star of The Week
Icedogs forward, Ian Bowman(32) was nominated Frontier Division 2nd Star of The Week. He is currently the teams’ leading scorer, with 6 goals and 2 assists, totaling 8 points in 5 games. Ian is from Palm Springs, California and has been playing hockey since he was 4 years old. His main focuses for this season are making sure his team advances to playoffs, while also advancing his hockey skills to the next level. “My plan is, that when I’m finished with junior hockey I will advance to the collegiate level, while also pursuing an education.” We asked Ian about how the season has been going for him personally, “I arrived in Montana a few weeks late, but now that I’m here it’s been fantastic. I’m fortunate enough to know many of my teammates from previous seasons. Playing with friends and battling with them on the Ice has been great.”
